Preparing for a Hen Do with Fibromyalgia

I'm not going to lie, I've got an insanely busy few months coming up. As someone who is used to spending a lot of time alone, this is genuinely so different to my normal life, but I'm so happy about it! I did a quick post earlier this year going over some of the things I've got going on this year, so I thought I'd share some posts about how I'm preparing for these with regards to my fibro.
First up I've got two hen do weekends for two amazing bride to be's this year. I am so excited and crazily happy that I've been asked to attend. I've got one in Benidorm and one in Leeds, and they're both going to be jam packed with activities to make it an unreal time. But with this comes a lot of preparation on my end, to make sure I know I can have a fantastic weekend without a dreaded fibro flare. Whilst I'm fully expecting to need a bit of recovery after, I'd like to try and make it through both weekends without a flare up.

Fancy Dress Flashback - Halloween Costume Ideas

Considering I HATE horror films, you might be surprised to hear that I love the spooky season that surrounds Halloween. It's the start of the entire festive season, the beginning of decor, themed drinks and parties that only intensify the further into Autumn/Winter you get. And what a way to start it ey?

I've always been a huge fan of costume parties and fancy dress. I don't at all think it should be resigned to Halloween, so you'll find me up for dressing up all year round, but with Halloween approaching I thought I'd share some photos of some of my previous fancy dress outfits for anyone that may be struggling for ideas! Some of these were for random Uni nights out, rather than Halloween parties, but I still think they could be used for Halloween costume ideas!

1. Ariel

I don't think I'll ever love a costume more than I loved this one. We had a Disney Princess night at Uni, and because I was dying my hair red at the time, Ariel was the perfect choice. It was so easy to make too, the green sequin fabric was sewn onto a cheap maxi skirt, with some extra tulle at the bottom to make it stick out a bit. I then painted some cheap plastic shells purple with some glitter on and attached these to a skin coloured vest top (I wasn't feeling the idea of wearing just the shells as a bra!), The shells had holes in for string, so I just used these to sew them into place. By the end of the night, everyone was sufficiently drunk enough to genuinely think I just had two shells stuck on my bare skin!

2. Dead Doll?

Questioning the name of this costume because I don't know for sure what this is! We took the idea of the face paint from Little Mix on The X Factor and it worked really well, sufficiently creepy enough for Halloween and the rest of the costume can be anything really! (I actually loved this dress because it really pinched my waist in!)

3. Dead Flapper Girl

This dress had been lying in my wardrobe for years, slowly getting closer to being way too tight to wear, so I decided to make use of it while I could for a Halloween Costume. Another easy one, you can get most of the accessories online so cheap! Then just whack some fake blood on and you're good to go! This dress was actually from H&M years ago, so it wasn't originally bought for costume purposes but it did the job! I've since bought another flapper style dress, it's a classic costume idea in my eyes, dead or not, so I'll be revamping this costume for a Halloween party this year! Keep your eyes peeled on my Instagram for it!

4. Zombie Sleepover

This was a big group Halloween costume, everyone on the netball team dressed liked this and it looked so good! I had a lot of help with the blood etc, but it was so fun ripping and burning the pjs and doll, definitely a good idea to stick with cheap everything if you're doing this! We created intense cheekbones and eye sockets, plus a really deep scratch on my leg that looked unreal! Pretty sure the green tinge to my skin was accomplished by mixing eyeshadow and foundation - who knew?!

5. Batman

I've made it pretty clear that I am a huge Marvel fan, so you might be surprised to know that the only Superhero I've ever dressed up as is DC favourite Batman! This was such a funny night, everyone would instantly say the classic line 'I'm Batman' to me. I think the costume cost no more than £25. It's a good idea for people who want to dress up but aren't keen on fake blood or scary costumes.

6. Pumpkin

Another favourite of mine just because of how unexpected it is! This was another group costume, but I think everyone expected us to wear something "sexy", so it was funny turning up in these huge pumpkin costumes! I don't think I have this costume anymore, it seems to have gotten lost in the move back from Uni, but I'm considering buying another one just for a laugh so I have it as a spare costume idea if needed. It was a cheap costume, I just added the stripey tights, a staple for Halloween!

And that's it! A quick run through of some of my past costume ideas! They may give you some ideas too if you're on the look out for Halloween costumes - these were all worn at Uni, so they're cheap and took barely any time to put together as well!

If you're dressing up for Halloween, let me know what costume you've gone for! Can't wait to see everyone's photos!

  1. I'm really thinking of going as the Turk Cissnei from Final Fantasy 7 - but an undead zombie version of her. I mostly just want an excuse to play with liquid latex and face paints.

    1. Yeah my favourite bit about Halloween costumes is definitely adding the blood etc, it's fun having a play about :)

  2. I am not a horror movie fan either but it is so much fun to dress up for Halloween. I did most of my dressing up in college as well and went as Batman once myself! Great ideas. I love the zombie sleepover, seems so easy to do.

    1. It's fun isn't it! I can't wait to get my costume together, it's been so long since I was dressed up for Halloween! It really was so easy, most of my costumes are always cheap and easy!
