Preparing for a Hen Do with Fibromyalgia

I'm not going to lie, I've got an insanely busy few months coming up. As someone who is used to spending a lot of time alone, this is genuinely so different to my normal life, but I'm so happy about it! I did a quick post earlier this year going over some of the things I've got going on this year, so I thought I'd share some posts about how I'm preparing for these with regards to my fibro.
First up I've got two hen do weekends for two amazing bride to be's this year. I am so excited and crazily happy that I've been asked to attend. I've got one in Benidorm and one in Leeds, and they're both going to be jam packed with activities to make it an unreal time. But with this comes a lot of preparation on my end, to make sure I know I can have a fantastic weekend without a dreaded fibro flare. Whilst I'm fully expecting to need a bit of recovery after, I'd like to try and make it through both weekends without a flare up.
1. Start Preparing …

Afternoon Tea Adventures | Harry Potter Afternoon Tea at The Great British Cupcakery

I've made it no secret that I am a HUGE fan of The Great British Cupcakery. Everything about it is just fabulous, so imagine my excitement when I found out they were celebrating Halloween with Harry Potter themed afternoon tea, waffles and shakes! I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, so I was absolutely desperate to go, and thankfully I was able to get booked in for some Harry Potter Afternoon Tea!

As we waited for our afternoon tea to arrive, we were able to eye up all the other Harry Potter treats available. We all swore we'd manage to get one of those amazing shakes (I don't know who we were trying to kid). The Butterbeer shake looked especially amazing because of the chocolate glasses.

As always, the afternoon tea was served beautifully, they really know how to make their food look good. I was also so pleased because when I rang to book, they told me that the Gluten Free Afternoon Tea was also Harry Potter themed! I was so worried that my friend would have to sit there with a normal afternoon tea while the rest of us had the Harry Potter stuff. Even better, there were only two substitutions for the gluten free treats, but Hanna still had the most special Harry Potter treats!

For the sandwiches, we had Mrs Weasley's Bacon, Professor McGonagall's Chicken, Dragon Milk Cheese and Pickle, and Professor Sprout's Cucumber and Cream Cheese. I love that they made the link with Harry Potter with the sandwiches, and that they changed them up a little compared to their original ones. I feel like the sandwiches would have been the most difficult to have made Harry Potter but they did it really well. I'm a huge fan of a bacon sandwich too so I was buzzing about that one!

Next up, we have Hagrids Bath Buns and Cheese Crusted Pumpkin Scones. They were amazing! You could taste the extra flavours in both of them, they'd really gone all out. The scone with jam and cream had such a lovely autumnal spice to it, I was amazed by the flavour! This was also the first time my friend Hanna has ever had a cheese scone before, both normal and gluten free! Whenever we've gone for afternoon tea before hers had never came with a cheese one but this one did, I've never seen her so happy about a scone before!

The first cake: The House Cupcake. I love that the icing was shaped like the Sorting Hat! It was so tasty, and even better, I was actually sorted into Gryffindor which is my Hogwarts House! Despite knowing what the sorting hat does, it didn't even occur to me that this cupcake would do the same, so when I realised I was honestly buzzing about it.

The Snitch Truffle! This tasted as amazing as it looked, it felt so indulgent!

Harry's Treacle Tart, his favourite dessert so a perfect fit for some Harry Potter Afternoon Tea.

Butterbeer Fudge topped Blondies. Despite going to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, I never tried Butterbeer but every time I watch the films I'm desperate to try a glass or two. Of course, a Harry Potter themed Afternoon Tea needs some Butterbeer.

On top of all the goodies you get with Afternoon Tea, there was plenty of other cakes and shakes to choose from. I loved these Magic Wand cupcakes, I wish I had some time to pop in again before the Harry Potter filled fun ends to try some.

If you follow GBC on their social medias, you'll know they went all out. The decor was fabulous, they managed to get it to fit in with their refurb so well, I loved the letters hanging by the window! Even better, they had all the music playing from the films. In my opinion the music from the Harry Potter films is just the most magical music ever. I'd not long rewatched all of the films but the music and the food really got me in the mood to watch them all over again.

If you have the chance, get yourself over there ASAP to take advantage of this! I'm so pleased that my first ever themed Afternoon Tea was at GBC and was a Harry Potter themed one! It lived up to all expectations, I don't think I could fault it at all! You can read my post about their normal afternoon tea here, and make sure you keep an eye out because I'll be heading back there in December for their Festive Afternoon Tea and I honestly can't wait!

Have you been to the Great British Cupcakery for their Harry Potter food? Let me know if you have, fingers crossed I get to go again before it ends!

  1. This looks so magical! I wish I'd known about this before as I would have loved to have gone to a Harry Potter themed afternoon tea! I don't know if I love the snitch truffle or Harry's favourite; the treacle tart! Xx

    1. They booked up pretty fast, which is not surprising but I think they've got all their cakes and shakes still available until Sunday! I'm hopefully going back on Sunday to grab a cake or two before they go! xx

  2. This looks like such a lovely treat Abbey! The sandwiches and cakes look delicious and I love how everything is Harry Potter themed. Wow, The House Cupcake looks incredible, I'm so craving a cup of tea and a slice of cake now! Thanks for sharing, I'm glad you had a wonderful experience <3 xx
