Preparing for a Hen Do with Fibromyalgia

I'm not going to lie, I've got an insanely busy few months coming up. As someone who is used to spending a lot of time alone, this is genuinely so different to my normal life, but I'm so happy about it! I did a quick post earlier this year going over some of the things I've got going on this year, so I thought I'd share some posts about how I'm preparing for these with regards to my fibro.
First up I've got two hen do weekends for two amazing bride to be's this year. I am so excited and crazily happy that I've been asked to attend. I've got one in Benidorm and one in Leeds, and they're both going to be jam packed with activities to make it an unreal time. But with this comes a lot of preparation on my end, to make sure I know I can have a fantastic weekend without a dreaded fibro flare. Whilst I'm fully expecting to need a bit of recovery after, I'd like to try and make it through both weekends without a flare up.

Afternoon Tea Adventures | Festive Afternoon Tea @ How Do You Do

I think we all knew I'd be going for a festive afternoon tea or two during December, so I'm so excited to be writing this post for the first of the three I have booked!

I've had How Do You Do on my list for quite some time now for their Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea, so imagine how excited I was when I found out that they had a Festive Mad Hatters! Double themed afternoon tea, what more could you want?! I also need to acknowledge how great they were, we had originally booked for 15:30 but ended up being ready a lot earlier than we expected so they got us in for 14:30 instead!

I think the building itself fits so well with the Alice in Wonderland theme. I never get to North Shields really so I had no idea where it was but I was instantly impressed. Such great views too, so pleased we got a window seat! I'd definitely recommend asking for one when booking!

First up was the sandwiches! We had Turkey and Stuffing, and then Beef with Horseradish. Two fillings I'm a big fan of - sometimes I can't handle the heat of horseradish so I was a bit nervous about those ones when I noticed how much horseradish there was but it wasn't too hot at all! They were both really good, it would have been nice to have a few extra flavours but really that's just me being greedy, these two were nice enough!

A bonus with this afternoon tea - roasties! I love when afternoon teas have something extra. I feel like this festive afternoon tea was just filled with fab stuff! These potatoes were so good, they were the bit I was most excited about not going to lie, and they really lived up to my expectations.

We were asked which scone we would like out of cheese and fruit. I normally do prefer getting both but again, I'm really greedy. We got one of each so we could share them. I'm so pleased Kloe was okay with halving them, I was really struggling with picking just one! The scones were really good, and they came with plenty butter, cream and jam.

So many choices for the sweet stuff! I love the way these were served as well! Honestly, How Do You Do have really upped the Afternoon Tea display. We had Gingerbread Heart cookies for the Queen of Hearts, Chocolate Truffle Christmas Pudding, Red Current Eton Mess, Mince Pies, a Lolly and a Pink Flamingo Lemonade 'Drink Me' Glass. I think the lollies were there as a replacement for Candy Canes but I didn't really mind too much. Unfortunately there was a bit of a mishap with the Eton Mess, but the staff were great and it was all sorted. All the treats were really good, and I was a serious fan of the little glass of pink lemonade. When you're eating all that food and just drinking tea or coffee, it's a nice treat having something fizzy.

This afternoon tea was priced at £14.95 which I thought was such a good price! You got plenty of tasty treats, plus it was both a Mad Hatter and Festive Afternoon Tea! To be fair, I was expecting a little more festiveness, but I think because it was the mix of the Alice in Wonderland and Festive it was fine because you were getting a mix.

All in all, I was really impressed with this Afternoon Tea. A great way to start my festive ones, and another venue ticked off my list! I would definitely recommend visiting, we're already planning on going back to try their normal food too! You can book online here. And if you're still in the mood for Afternoon Tea, why not check out some of my previous posts here

I'd love to hear some of your latest afternoon tea visits, and let me know if you have any festive ones booked in!

Abbey xx
