Preparing for a Hen Do with Fibromyalgia

I'm not going to lie, I've got an insanely busy few months coming up. As someone who is used to spending a lot of time alone, this is genuinely so different to my normal life, but I'm so happy about it! I did a quick post earlier this year going over some of the things I've got going on this year, so I thought I'd share some posts about how I'm preparing for these with regards to my fibro.
First up I've got two hen do weekends for two amazing bride to be's this year. I am so excited and crazily happy that I've been asked to attend. I've got one in Benidorm and one in Leeds, and they're both going to be jam packed with activities to make it an unreal time. But with this comes a lot of preparation on my end, to make sure I know I can have a fantastic weekend without a dreaded fibro flare. Whilst I'm fully expecting to need a bit of recovery after, I'd like to try and make it through both weekends without a flare up.

Safari Supper for Sunderland Restaurant Week [ad]

I was invited to the #EatDrinkSunderland Safari Supper to get a taste of what is on offer for Sunderland Restaurant Week in return for me to share my experience on my blog and social media. All views in this post are my own.

It's already half way through March and I've just been so terrible at keeping my blog up to date! I decided to extend my hiatus after getting caught up in a car accident last month (thankfully aside from some whiplash I'm fine!) as I needed to make sure I didn't stress myself out any further. I feel like I'm back on track now though and I'm really excited to be posting again as I've got loads on this year! This post will actually be quite a long one, and my photos have actually ended up being terrible so please bear with me! Hopefully you get the gist of it, but I'm a bit rusty and I was a bag of nerves most of the night!

I was so lucky to be given the chance to attend the #EatDrinkSunderland Safari Supper to get a taste of just some of the restaurants available for this years Sunderland Restaurant Week. This is the 6th restaurant week in Sunderland, and I'm ashamed to say this was the first time I've ever actually ventured over into Sunderland for food! I don't even know why, its just as easy for me to get to Sunderland as it is Newcastle, but I know after this event I'll definitely be heading back!

Sunderland Restaurant Week starts on Saturday 16th March and lasts until Sunday 24th March, so you're actually getting 2 extra days! Like any restaurant week, you get the chance to try some amazing places, trying out their two and three course set menus for £10-15pp: you can download your vouchers and see the full list of participating restaurants here. Honestly I think restaurant weeks are just revolutionary, it's the perfect way to try somewhere new, which is exactly why I was so excited to attend this Safari Supper. I'm on a right mission this year to not only try new restaurants etc, but to also try some new food!

We all met at P's & Q's for our first course of the Safari Supper, a try of their cocktails! As soon as I walked in I knew it was somewhere I would enjoy, the decor was just so lovely, and the little conservatory bit we sat in was fab too, I can imagine it would be lovely for some drinks with your friends, perfect for plenty of insta photos!

I went with a mocktail as I was driving, and I definitely wasn't disappointed! I had the Watermelon and Strawberry Cooler, I've never tasted anything like it! It was so fruity, I absolutely loved it. It also looked like a proper cocktail too which is so important to me - just because I'm driving doesn't mean I don't want a pretty drink! P's & Q's are really upping their game to bring a new atmosphere to Sunderland and I'm so pleased I got to experience it! The other cocktails/mocktails looked unreal too, I wish I could have tried them all!

After stop number 1, we split up into smaller groups to head off for our starters. My group had Thai Bay for our second course, and I was so excited to try this. I never really get to any Thai restaurants, and this one was absolutely lovely. Again, the way they presented both the restaurant and the food was just outstanding, so authentic and it really made the atmosphere fab. The idea of Thai Bay is to enjoy good, authentic Thai food in a relaxed setting, and you definitely get that here.

We were presented with some amazing looking food, and I got to try some stuff I've never had before. As soon as I heard there was Squid I knew I had to try some, I always put myself off it but I just went for it and it was so nice! I can't believe I've been denying myself for so long! I also tried some Dim Sum, Ham and Cheese Spring Rolls, and some Ribs, and of course some Prawn Crackers. I could have eaten the lot to be fair, but knowing we had two more courses to go meant I steadied myself. I definitely want to head back here again, even if it's just for the Squid!

For our third course, we went to Grosvenors. I honeslty didn't even know they did food, so I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived there. On top of the Restaurant Week deals, they also offer a Cinema deal where you get a main, a drink and a cinema ticket for just £12! Such a bargain, and they have some great meals on offer for the mains too.

I can't even begin to describe how much food we had to try! I'll most likely have forgotten something but I'll give it a go: Feta Salad, Halloumi Salad, Halloumi and Chorizo Skewers, Calamari, Spicy Chicken Wings, Onion Rings with Cheese and Bacon, Sea Bass, Steak, Ceasar Salad with Salmon, Fish and Chips, and a Chicken Burger and a Beef Burger. In fact I know I've missed stuff off here but just thinking about it has made me full again!

You should have seen our faces as they brought all the food out! It was great though as it meant we all got to try something, and everything we had was absolutely lush! There was such a good range too with what we were eating, I just wish I could have eaten it all!

Finally, we headed to 808 Bar & Kitchen for dessert. All the groups met up again for this, and we got to try some of their pancakes from their new Pancake menu. Oh my days, these pancakes! I don't think any photos or words could do them justice! We had White Chocolate Reeces Pancakes, and Creme Egg Pancakes. They also had loads of other choices too, like Kinder Beuno!

If you're looking for some amazing pancakes to treat yourself, this is the place to go! It was so lovely as well, as soon as we walked in we all commented on how instagrammable the venue was! I definitely want to head back to try some of their drinks and a few more food bits.

I honestly don't know how I managed to walk back to the car, I felt so full, but not in a bad way. I just knew I'd eaten a lot of really good food, so I was so ready for bed! I don't think there's anything I tried that I didn't genuinely enjoy, everything I had I would definitely have again, although I will say the Squid is the standout meal for me simply because I really didn't think I would enjoy it so much! On top of the amazing food and cocktails, I was also so impressed by the hospitality. The staff were all so friendly, and it just made for a great atmosphere. I also really enjoyed meeting the other bloggers, I was really out of my comfort zone going on my own but I'm so pleased I did, I met some lovely people!
